Hi all

I think the puzzle has been solved.   Found Annie and now know who her parents were.   Maggies father is still a mystery, however:

1901 census shows Maggie living with Gparents Lambert
1881 census shows GPs with son John b1876.
1891 census shows son John working as a farm servant in Br of Earn, Perth
shows Annie as farm servant in Aberdalgie, Perth (nr BoE)
1894 BC for Maggie shows birth as Bo'ness and Annie living in Kintillo, nr Bof E

all interesting but not conclusive!

thanks to all for the massive help

Agree with where you have got to BW  :) I coudn't get it past that point either.

Making obvious guesses here, it could be that with Annie showing a Bo'ness birth place in the possible 1891 census entry that has been found, that she went back to family to have Maggie.

What was the occupation of Annie Millar in the birth cert for daughter Maggie? Farm/domestic servant?

Have you managed to find John Lambert in 1901? Still bothers me that if she was potentially raised by paternal grandparents and knew who her father was, that a. she didn't go by the name of Lambert (rather than Millar) and that b. she didn't name him as her father in her two (three?) marriage certs  :-\

It looks like John was married (Jessie) and working on a farm in Falkland (his place of birth) in the 1901 census.

Annie is shown as a Farm Servant on BC for MLM

It is very strange that, with the Lambert connection,  the fathers name is not shown on any certificate BC, MC and DC

Harry, just realised that you have two Ann Millars both born in Bo'ness within a couple of months of each other n 1870 (parents Samuel & Mary or Neil & Jane). You may have to dig deeper to establish which one could be Maggie's mother most likely - unless you have already been able to eliminate one.

on ML Whyte DC mo is shown as Annie Miller afterwards married to Laird.   On MC for Annie and Robert Laird Annies Fa is Samuel Miller and Mo is Mary McAdam, so almost 100% sure I have the right people.   Also on BC for Maggie and MC for Annie her signatures are almost identical.
