Was he Scottish?

I have a quaich which is something the scots used to drink whiskey etc. Nowadays they tend to be silver but they used to be wooden (treen).

Not sure it fits with being a cooper though as quaichs would be a lot smaller.

At the top of this board are links to find out about occupations-
www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,380698.0.html

Cooper/Cuper- http://rmhh.co.uk/occup/c2.html
"Made or repaired vessels made of wooden staves & hoops, such as casks, barrels, tubs, etc."

Here's a bit about quaiches- quaichmaker obviously one who made them and fits with being a cooper as they also made wooden vessels-
http://www.rampantscotland.com/know/blknow_quaich.htm

A wheelwright is a person who "Made or repaired wheels; wheeled carriages, etc. "
