Wood ... Sussex
« on: Monday 24 May 04 19:47 BST (UK) »
I am searching for my great-grandmother Polly (Mary E.) Wood.  Ange was kind enough to find her in the 1891 Census for me with my ggrandfather Alfred Winter in Seaford.  She is shown aged 27 bIdailshaw?

I cannot locate any more information about her ... birth, parents, place of birth (can't find Idailshaw info) and can't find her on 1901 census under Mary Winter.  I am stuck!  Can anyone help?

Hi Janine

This is the information from the 1891 census, previously supplied by Ange - but she got it a bit wrong!!

Winter, Albert 6months, Seaford, Sussex Son  Seaford  Sussex
Winter, Alfred 32 Seaford, Sussex Head  Seaford  Sussex
Winter, Alfred 4 Seaford, Sussex Son  Seaford  Sussex
Winter, Harry R 2 Seaford, Sussex Son  Seaford  Sussex
Winter, Mary E 27 Hailsham, Sussex Wife  Seaford  Sussex
Winter, Mary E E 6 Seaford, Sussex Daughter  Seaford  Sussex

As you can see, it clearly shows Mary E was born in Hailsham

Incredibly helpful Chris ... thanks so much.  If I were a little closer than western Canada I'd take you for a pint at the Barley Mow in Selmeston, the pub my Grandparents ran for 28 years from 1924 on!

How about the WOOD family in Hailsham, 1881 census?  children I know are:  Mary Elizabeth (Polly), 1864; Samuel, 1892.

Hi Janine

You can access the 1881 yourself by using this link

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp

There are several Mary & Mary Elizabeth born in Sussex in 1864
