Seeking baptism record Skelton c1825
« on: Monday 02 August 10 20:13 BST (UK) »
Would any kind Rootschatter be able to look up a baptism record for my gg grandfather William Foster?  According to the 1851 census he was born c 1825 in Skelton.  A distant relation thinks William's father was John Francis Foster. I believe that the relevant parish church is St Giles in Skelton.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Is the church St Giles in the area of the city of York??  As there is another  Skelton, Skelton in Cleveland, just wonderd if this may need moving to another board to maybe assist you in your query.

Good luck with your search

Do you not have the Marriage Cert to Eleanor Pullen with this info?

Trish :)

Thank you Jane and Trish for your responses.  I have no knowledge of Yorkshire geography and was too hasty in posting!  I googled Skelton and found photos of St Giles, Skelton.  Having looked on an atlas I now discover that there are 3 Skeltons in Yorkshire - 2 in N Yorks and 1 in the E Riding.  At the moment I only have information from the censuses and wrongly assumed there was only 1 Skelton.  I guess I'll have to stump up for certificates to confirm details.

Yes the Cert is a must to confirm the right line.
Let us know the outcome and we may be able to help more.

Trish :)

Thanks again for your message.  I know I have the correct family because I have the bill for Eleanor's funeral which I found amongst my mother's effects when clearing her house 30 years ago.  I wasn't interested in family history then and may have binned other important documents.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Yes I agree. I dread the thought of what was thrown out when my Mother passed away. Unfortunately I was on the other side of the World when that happened :(

Best of luck with it all :)
