To save anyone searching & finding what you've already got - what was the source of "later occupation - gardener" after his marriage? Do you have, for example, 1871 census or birth/baptism details of any children?

see other thread -

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,473748.msg3333606.html#msg3333606

where does Frederick place and yr of birth come from, and as has already been asked his later occupation of gardener?

Best to continue on just one thread or we will be duplicating work. I was looking for Fredk for ages on the other thread, (in 1871 when Herb a child)  although then with no yr or place of birth given!

Which census do you have him on ?
Can you give the full detials.

And how do you know there were brothers of Herbert - have you got detials of them already too?
Please give ALL the info you have already on the family, or people will waste time looking for what you have already, or not be able to find what you do want help with because they do not have all the facts to start with.

The 1851 guy certainly looks a possibility for the Frederick  Epps that marries Ann (father William James as per marriage on other thread) - though the one who married was 'of full age' ie over 21, and this one was only 19 in 1861 ....

Here is the 1851 in case it helps
Tonbridge rd, Maidstone
Willam James Epps 34 Nursery and seedsman employing 40 men bn Greenhithe Kent
Maria 29 bn Sussex Boreham
William James son 11
Frederick R 9 son
Maria dtr 7
Henry son 3   children bn Maidstone

They were obviously doing OK in 1851 - employing 40 men at the business.

I havent pinpointed the family yet in 1861 (there is a Wm and Maria, but they have different places of birth and are a carter and a charwoman, so unless they have fallen on very hard times it doesnt look likely)

but I think this is the youngest child Henry (age 13 bn Maidstone)

and eldest son also William James is at
RG9 512 80 12 age 21 married to an Elizabeth, living in Ashford, and a nurseryman like his dad.
