 I just can`t think what this would be. 1861 .
Latt ?  His mother was born Sligo Ireland, but all children b  Oldham
No idea of father - yet - as I can`t locate Mary and  Latt in 1851

Not sure if it's a name but how about Iato? Possibly spelt as it was spoken

It definitely looks like an L, but given the Irish connection could it be a misreading or mishearing of Pat?

I wonder if he wasn't registered as GALLAGHER?  There's a large gap to the next child, which can mean a second marriage (though it could also mean children who died, of course).

I don't know if you have found the family in 1871  they are transcribed as GOLLAGHERS still in Oldham. Unfortunately .
Unforunately "Latt"  isn't with them.

For what it's worth my thinking is that the 'L' is actually an 'S'.  It isn't dissimilar to the 'S' in 'Son'.
