« on: Sunday 15 August 10 09:02 BST (UK) »
i don't know if this is the right forum but i wonder if anyone can help? I am looking for an ancestor frederick venn who is listed as a postman in the 1901 census in lambeth . He is a railway porter by 1903. Is there a look up service to find out when he started and why he left? Thank you.

Try googling Post Office Archives and you should find a site to help you.  I don't know whether they have details of postmen but they do hold some for postmasters.

It is also worth looking at the London Gazette.  Because postmen were official appointments they were often recorded there.  I have found fairly junior Post Office appointments and promotions there.
