George Powell b c 1835 in Penkridge to a William Powell married Annie Turner in 1868 and had Maud (1871), Thomas (1872), James (1878), and William 1881.

I would be most grateful if someone could uncover the above census records fo rthis family.

Just to put a 'spanner in the works' I had a look a look at the 1841 census for this family who are living at  Quarry Heath

James Powell age 40
Sarah age 35
Mary age 11
Ann age 8
George age 6
William age 4
Edward age 2
Sarah age 5 mo
William age 50

All born in the county.

If you look at Search Labs, Family Search all the above children were baptised in Penkridge with parents James and Sarah.

There is a death of a James Powell in 1841, Penkridge. So perhaps Sarah went on to marry William (a relative of James?) who was living with them on the 1841 census.    Any thoughts ?

That really interesting. I think you are right and that William is either James brother or a cousin. The 10 year age gap does not rule a brother out. Interestingly I cannot find a marriage for either James or William to a Sarah in Penkridge that ties in nor a death of William that matches his age.

Does it give Agnes's surname as Powell? I wonder whose child she was?

Agnes' surname on the 1901 census is Powell. I did wonder if she may have been Maude's daughter. The only real way of answering that question would be to purchase her birth certificate.

Like you I have been unable to find a marriage of either James/William to Sarah.

William and Sarah are both on the 1871 census but not on the 1881 census. These could be their deaths -
