Bowen in Tennessee
« on: Friday 20 August 10 14:53 BST (UK) »
I am working on the Bowen family that lived in Lincoln and Moore counties in Tennessee, around the town of Fayetteville. I have William Rich Bowen (1859 - 1931) confirmed well, as his grandaughter is my mother and knew him. Bit prior to him things get very fuzzy. Anyone have anything on these folks?

Hi RikR, welcome to RootsChat.

You may have already seen this, but in May 2000, someone stated that Daniel Bowen and Mintua Bradley were the parents of William Rich Bowen, born April 15, 1859 in Huntland, TN.

I was aware of that posting and have attempted to contact the author to see what her source was. I would like to confirm the information. It conflicts with information from another source, which I am currently using in my tree.

Thanks for sharing though.

I have his birth as being at  Huntland, Franklin, Tennessee, USA.

We still have family in the Fayetteville area. Many of the family worked at the Elk Mill there in late 1800s/ earrly 1900s.

Lincoln county was divided into Lincoln and Moore counties.

The 1900 census has them at Civil District 3, Lincoln, Tennessee

What is the source of his mother and father names?

That is close to the information I am using except I have his mother as Clemetine Bradley.

Then I have Daniel's father as a James Bowen (married to Mary J--). James may be from Alabama, but very fuzzy here.

Looking at their handwritten marriage record, I can see how her name looks like it might be Clementua Bradley. That may be wwhere the Mintua comes from.

The record I am looking at is "Tennessee State Marriages, 1780-2002 Record for Clementna Bradley"

The date appears to be January ? 1842.
