Hi Shellback

In your maritime records do you happn to have any record of a David Curran (b1883 d1960) working on the Blackwater lightship?  He lived in Lower Balliconnigar, Blackwater. His obituary states he "went to sea"  and  there is also a family verbal record of him having worked on the lightships.

Extract from p299 of ‘A maritime history of co Wexford’ - Vol II 1911 – 1960 by John Power.

Captain William Wafer

The death of Captain Wafer, formally of the Faythe, Wexford took place on September 3rd 1938 at his residence, 45 Russell Avenue, Drumcondra, Dublin. After serving on many of the Wexford schooners he joined the Irish Lights Service….he saw service in many of the lightships around the coast and was appointed captain in 1911…retiring through ill health in 1917. Captain Wafer lived in Dublin for nearly 25 years….sympathy to his widow Margaret & family.

I posted the parish record of the 1892 marriage of William & Margaret on the ‘Wafer’s of Wexford’ topic. I also have a record of their second son, Richard’s baptism on 13th March 1895 (Bride St Church). The family were residing in New Street (Parnell Street) at this time. Richard’s Godparents are possibly his Uncle and Auntie.

In addition there is a note in the register providing additional details of what would appear to be Richard’s 2nd marriage to a Widow (with a surname of Wafer!) on 4th July 1938 in Fairview Dublin.
