In the 1841 census my ancestors lived at Hogshead Green,Pownell fee.
Can anyone tell me where this is or was?

Perhaps you have long since solved this query, but I had exactly the same problem as you, but have solved it with the help of a colleague.

Hogshead Green was in Styal village, NW of Wilmslow. It appears on the Bryant map of 1831 in that location.

It is at National Grid Reference SJ 828 838, on the road that used to run from Styal to Altrincham, but was cut off when the Second Runway was built at Manchester Airport. On the current OS 1:25,000 map it is identifiable as "Norcliffe Farm" and a spot-height of 79 m. This is consistent with its location in the census enumerator's route from Styal to Morley.

I attach a rather poor photograph of the relevant portion of the map.
