Chewter Girls
« on: Tuesday 24 August 10 13:19 BST (UK) »
I am trying to establish "if" there is any connection between -Hannah Chewter 1724 - 1776 married William Holmwood 1725 - 1793 in 1750

and

Elizabeth Chewter 1765 - , married Michael Holmwood 1763 -  , in 1787.

Of course, it could just be coincidence that William Holmwood and his son both happened to marry a Miss Chewter.  :)

While i am very grateful to you omega, why Elizabeth?
Hannah came first.
........and the same thought occurred to me. Hannah would have been 25/6 when she married, so if Elizabeth was "going 2nd time", so could Hannah.

Michael Holmwood & Elizabeth Chewter (Widow) married 15th Jan 1787 at Maresfield,William from Rotherfield.

If Elizabeth had children ,hopefully we can find her maiden name, unless she used it when she remarried.

William Holmwood married Hannah Chewter 8th July 1750

I then found a William Holmwood (Widower) marrying an Elizabeth Godley (Widow) 3rd Nov 1766 at Withyham

Extra,William yeoman from Rotherfield.

Hope i`m not confusing you but helping you

No, you are not confusing me, just making it more interesting!
For example, I found Michael Holmwood & Elizabeth Chewter marrying at Withyham not Maresfield, only a few miles apart, bur it could have been in between or a parish boundary change?

what you need to find is a MR Chewter marrying an Elizabeth pre Elizabeth marriage to Michael Holmwood and the death of Mr Chewter in the intervening years

you would need to find a relationship between the Holmwoods rather than the Chewters
