Does he give Llanbadarn Fawr as his place of birth on any census? 1871 shows just Llanbadarn. There's a possible in Llanbadarn Odwyn with a father called John
HO107/2487 folio 120 pg 6
IGI extracted baptism 14/5/1841 Llanbadarn Odwyn batch C080761 son of John & Jane.

Hi Cardiff,

Many thanks once again for your help, on one other census shows him as coming from Aberystwyth so assumed Llanbadarn was Llanbadarn Fawr as it came under Aberystwyth, but what you have sounds very promising will check it out on Google earth and maps.

Llanbadarn Odwyn isn't near Aberystwyth

Many thanks, yes just checked on Google earth shows close to Lampeter so that is a long way away so back to the drawing board.
