Does anyone know what these trades are.
What is a Whitesmith
What is a Slater, does this one also mean a stonemason.
What is a Catechiest Missioner.
I came across these names while searching the free bmd site,i would be interested to know what they are.Anne.

A whitesmith is a tinsmith.
A slater is someone who roofs houses using slate.
And a catechist is a teacher of religion, in this case maybe a missionary.

Hope that helps.

Thankyou Nell,it was just pure curiosity.I dont think a slater could be classed as a stonemason ,i thought it was too much to expect.I am just trying to find an elusive ancestor who was a stonemason.Thankyou again.Anne.
