St Nicholas Church, Thorne burial

Hi

I know a family member was buried at St Nicholas Church in Thorne on 27 JAN 1876. My husband visited the churchyard last year and was unable to find a headstone. We realise this is not unusual but it is quite possible he was fairly wealthy and so may have had one. There are several overgrown graves which may have been him but that would take a lot of work to clear them to try and read.

Could I ask where any grave registers and burial plans for this church would be held?

According to Genuki, typed transcripts of burial registers for St Nicholas (1565-1876) are held at Doncaster Archives.

Doncaster Archives have more than a typed transcript of Thorne registers they have the exact register but prefer you to use the printed (taken from the fiche of the original) books they have on the shelf.  The earlier entries are typed and the work was carried out by a team of manpower workers in the 80's.  Having just about finished transcribing Conisborough registers myself i can say the error rate is running at about 10% for these transcriptions so not to bad but they have made the mistake of pre 1752 entries by putting the January feb and mar in the wrong years
