Gravestone Kinsale
« on: Tuesday 31 August 10 16:55 BST (UK) »
Kinsale, St.Multose churchyard has a large gravestone for Helena Savage my greatgrandmother. Her husband John is buried in Northern Ireland., and the place of his burial is written on that stone.  I am trying to trace him and it would get me off to a good start if I know where he was buried.
Any help or advice out there.

Hi Boobah,

Just saw your post, I have a photo ( not easy to read) of a Higgins/Savage headstone in St Multose.

Ellen d April  1893 age 48
Eleanor Charlotte Frances Savage d 2 Aug 1905 age -?4
and her mother Charlotte Anna Savage (nee Higgins) d 17 Oct 1938 age 76

The top part of the headstone is almost illegible.  Don't know if this is the relevant one for you.  I will be in Kinsale in the next week or so and could have a look.

If you want a photo of the one I have send me a PM with your email address.

Celtic liberty, many thanks, I would be over the moon if you did have a look for me.  It mentions 3 of Helena Savage children who died as babies as well. But it is the place that John is buried in and a date for him if its on it. Happy hols.Boo

Celtic Liberty. That gravestone you talk of may be relation also, as we have Eleanors and Frances running thru family.  The Savage family I talk of owned theOld Bakery on the road leading out of Kinsale towards the "New Bridge"  (now old) ! Maybe we are related ! Cheers Boo

Hi Boobah,

I am not related to the Savages, I recently visited St Multose and took lots of photos of the church and cemetery.

I live in Cork so am in Kinsale very often.

Will have a look anyway - the only thing is some of those headstones are difficult to make out.

Will be on again

Hi Boobah,

I took a spin to Kinsale this evening to have a look for the Headstone and found it almost immediately.  It was so easy to see - it was large and white.
I took a few photos if you would like them send me a PM with your email address.  I also took some photos of "The Olde Bakery" with the plaque that says it was built by Isaac Savage in 1831.

I called in to a pub in Guard well looking for a place for another rootschatter and the owner, a lovely lady said she knew Isaac Savage ( John & Helena's son).

The main thing is I got a result for you -
John Savage died  4 August 1909 aged 75 and interred in
TEMPO, Co. Fermanagh

Hope that gives you the start you need.

let me know if you would like the photos

Dear Celtic Tiger, how marvellous and so good of you to look up the gravestone in Kinsale, typically Irish, I cannot thank you enough.  It had to be a big stone for all the info on it !  My grandfather and Grandmother are in a tomb shaped one nearby. Lizzie and Richard Willis.

So you are not related what a shame !  I do not kknow what you mean by PM re photos. Can`t look that up !!!!!!!! Enlighten please.

Will be in Ireland year after next again, God willing.

Cheers and so much thanks.

Boobah
