Robert & Alice NEWEY burials at Ashby de la Zouch
« on: Thursday 02 September 10 12:21 BST (UK) »
Hi.
I would be truly grateful if some kind soul could look up the the details of the following burials at Ashby de la Zouch, St Helen.

Robert NEWEY  2 June 1836

Alice NEWEY  21 April 1837

I found these burials on the NBI v3 but the entry is marked as "Unchecked" so if anyone has access to the microfilm/fiche of the original burial register and can verify it for me, it would be fantastic.
The Robert NEWEY (sometimes found as NEWLY etc) was an Excise Officer so if that was mentioned in the register entry, I will know I have the correct burials.

Thanks in advanced.
Regards, Shirley

Hi Mike

Oh dear! I must be having more Senior Moments :-[

I've got a bit confuddled with some of ladydot's research and thought we had only asked about the baptisms of some of Robert & Alice NEWEY and their marriage.
I shall do a file of events we have confirmed and we won't be asking duplicates again.

Thanks Mike.
Regards,
Shirley

Well, finally (as promised) I made it to the St Helen's graveyard. But, sorry to report could not find any trace of a Newey grave there.

However, it does seem like the churchyard has been "renovated" as most of the grave markers are either horizontal in the grass or propped up against the wall behind a load of trees and bushes.

We did the David Bellamy bit and battled throught he undergrowth but no joy.

Even checked inside the church to see if they would be in there but again had no luck.

Sorry, if there is anywhere else in thsi area you need us to check please feel free to ask.

Hi Lelly.

Thank you so very much for your time & your endeavours.  :-*
It is very much appreciated.
It is a pity the gravestone has not survived the years but my friend ladydot can safely assume that her ancestors were buried in the churchyard (church burial register) and she hopes to visit the church next year to pay her respects.

Best regards,
Shirley x

Well the good news is, if Ladydot does decide to visit the church it is open most of the time for people to go inside. It is a beautiful church with some fabulous old graves and history.

There is a car park near by but other than that it is quite tricky to find somewhere to park.

Hi Lelly.

Ladydot doesn't drive but she has discovered that a local coach company did a Leicestershire 3 day tour this year so she is hoping that it will do the same next year.
One of the days included a visit to Ashby de la Zouch so it would be great if she could get on that trip.
Thanks again for your help.
Kind regards,
Shirley x
