Hi,

 :D

Please can anyone help with a marriage for George Page and Sarah circa 1810/1812 in Clacton, Essex.  George was baptised at Attleborough Borough Church, Norfolk 3 Apr 1791 and Sarah was born in Clacton, Essex circa 1796.

Their children were baptised at Attleborough Borough Church, Norfolk and they were living in Attleborough according to the census in 1841, 1851 and 1861 but I have been unable to find their marriage.

I have been told that where the couple came from different areas, the marriage was commonly held in the Bride's parish.

For reference, this is the couple on the 1851 and 1861 census:-

Class: HO107; Piece: 1823; Folio: 21; Page: 23; GSU roll: 207477;

Class: RG9; Piece: 1237; Folio: 15; Page: 23; GSU roll: 542781;

In 1861 the census says Sarah's place of birth is Great Clacton whereas in 1851 its just Clacton - I don't know the area so don't know if this makes a difference.

Thank you.

Luzzu

Hi Carole,

Thanks for your reply.  I don't think they married in Norfolk but in Essex as I can't find a marriage on the Norfolk PR's

The baptism for the first child of George and Sarah seems to be 8 Sep 1816 in Attleborough although there could have been children before that date that didn't survive.

All the children seem to have been baptised in Attleborough and they certainly lived there from 1841 but there doesn't seem to be a marriage there.

Thanks Trevor but I'm don't think its the right couple as they had already baptised two children in Attleborough by then with possibly another one on the way because the 3rd was baptised January 1820.

Thank you so much.  That's a kind offer.

I have just finished trawling through the Attleborough parish records and it does seem very likely that George and Sarah married in Clacton.

I found 4 daughters born in Attleborough: Mary Ann(1816), Eliza(1818), Ann,(1820) and Hannah (1822) but I know there was a fifth daughter who was the eldest - Sarah A - who according to the census was born about 1815 in Great Clacton.

Sarah A married her first husband Charles Upston in 1835 and then married her first cousin, William Page, in 1851.  He was also born in Clacton in 1813.  His parents were George's brother, William Page and Mary who I think married in Clacton too at around the same time as George.

I really appreciate your help.
