Missing in 1851 : Elizabeth KETTLEWELL
« on: Tuesday 05 April 05 15:37 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I've lost an ancestor (sure you've heard that before!).

Elizabeth Kettlewell was 8 years old in 1841 and was born and living in Barmby Moor.

I have found her parents in 1851 with Elizabeth's 2 younger sisters but she isn't with them.

Could someone check the Barmby 1851 census to see if she is elsewhere or if there are any indexes to places local to Barmby, eg. Pocklington, to see if she has strayed there.

Bit of a stab in the dark but worth a try.

Thanks

  Damian

Hi Damian

Do you have her listed in later censuses?

Best wishes

By 1861 she is married to William Robinson and is living in Lincoln with her oldest child who is 5.  I can't find this marriage which is another mystery for me!   ???

Sorry if I'm being a bit slow Damian - but how do you know this is her in 1861?  :)

Best wishes

I suppose you can never be completely sure but the combination of an unusual surname like Kettlewell (son's birth certificate), the age and an odd birth place of Barmby-on-the-Moor makes it almost certain to be her.

I guess at 18 it has been quite common in my family for the older girls to be servants elsewhere so perhaps that's whats happened but usually they haven't travelled too far.
