Nobles in Kilmarnock 1790's
« on: Monday 06 September 10 20:16 BST (UK) »
Looking to find out some more info with regards Daniel Noble, shoemaker (master??) who married a Mary Ritchie in Kilmarnock (Parish) in 1797.

I have searched Scotlands People for Daniel and cannot come up with a birth record. As it is an OPR, there is no record of his birth.

I have a Daniel Noble born in Ratho in 1783. This would make him 13 when he got married.

Is this a possibility back in those days? Something tells me no.

According to the Society of Genealogists in Scotland boys could marry at 14 and girls at the age of 12 without parental consent.

Hi McKeown,

Have you tried looking at the original image on SP? It may reveal what parish this Daniel was from.

I would be hesitant in accepting this as the same person; the name isn't that uncommon. :-\ There is however the chance that the baptism was when he was aged x years instead of soon after his birth. Have you looked at the original image of this on SP also?

Hi Hume,
I have purchased the original from SP.

It is a 3 line statement. I would log into SP just now and transpose it, but I am having trouble logging in.

It only mentions that they were married in the parish. No other names. Parents or witnesses.

Would Kilmarnock Parish Church maybe have more records?

Hi McKeown,

I can't imagine there would be anymore re the marriage in any other records. Unfortunately this is one of the cases where not a lot of information is given at all. Parents' names are rarely included at all in the parish records; the best that can be hoped for is a father's name for either the bride or groom.

I'm researching a Daniel Noble (shoemaker) who married Ann Wyllie on 12 Jun 1829 in Kilmarnock. She then married James Pinkerton on 14 Dec 1840. But I can only find the death of a Daniel Noble on 3 August 1845 (Balerno - aged 60). The 1841 census lists him as 50 then so even with the 5 yr rounding down this would be a little out but accuracy is never guaranteed! Do you have a death record for Mary Ritchie?

Don't know if that helps at all?!!

Interesting.
Ratho and Balerno aint that far apart. This may be a interesting development.

At Present I do not have a Death Cert for Mary Ritchie. I may need to hun that down.
