William Smith B Monmouth 1856
« on: Monday 13 September 10 10:05 BST (UK) »
Hi - this is my first posting on this forum so I hope that I have got things about right. I am trying to find out more about my maternal great-grandfather William Smith.

All I know of him is that he was born in Monmouth in circa 1856. He married Elizabeth F Eley (born Gloucester circa 1857). They had several children, one of whom was Hilda Maude Smith (my grandmother) born March 1892 in Dursley, Gloucestershire and died in 1943 in Hersham, Surrey. Her married name was Stoner.

If possible I would like to identify who the parents / siblings of William were. All I know is that his father was John Smith and his mother was Elizabeth ? Thanks very much indeed for any help anyone is able to give me.

Don't know if you already know this but I can see them in 1891:

William Smith     31
Elizabeth F Smith    30
William J Smith    11
Florence E Smith    8
Rose Smith    6
Frank Smith    4
Lilly Smith    1/12

and 1901:

Wm Smith     45
Elizabeth F Smith    40
Florence E Smith    18
Rose Smith    16
Lily Smith    11
Hilda M Smith    9
Frank E Smith    6
Albert Smith    3
Doris M Smith    2 Months

Both in Gloucester, cant see them in 1881 ???

Thanks for the update - struck me when I checked the census records just how much William had aged over 10 years. Also wondered what happened to William J Smith (11 in 1891) and how an 1891 4yr old Frank may have manifested into a 1901 6yr old Frank E Smith. But that, is the fun and challenge of researching. Your post was very much appreciated and apologies for delay in thanking you. Paul
