Dear John,

Thank you for your reply.

Here is what I have on my Partridge line:

William Partridge bap. 29 Mar 1807 in Bozeat, I believe he died in Cottesbrooke. I do have the civil registration info, but have not ordered it.

He married Mary Cook bap. 8 Apr 1806 in Mears Ashby, d. 29 Aug in 1872 in Cottesbrooke.

Their children:  Sarah Spencer Partridge, bap. 1 May 1835 in Bozeat bur 17 Apr 1863, Elsworth, Camb.
Charles Partridge, bap.6 Feb 1838, Elsworth
William Partridge, bap. 12 Nov 1838, Elsworth
Mary Partridge, bap. 21 Jun 1840, Elsworth
John George Partridge, bap.9 Oct 1842, Elsworth
                          Betsey Partridge, b, 14 Apr 1844, Elsworth, d. 10 Dec 1921, Pocatello, Idaho, USA
                         Samuel Partridge, b. 21 Nov 1847, Elsworth, bur. 2 Aug 1861, Elsworth

As much as I have tried, I have not been able to determine the locations of the remaining siblings of my gg mother Betsey.
William's father, Franics was bap. 26 Apr 1772 in Bozeat, son of Richard Partridge & Mary Troman (Truman). Richard was bap. 3 Mar 1751 in Bozeat, son of Richard Partridge & Mary Boddington. I do suspect this Richard's father is also named Richard.  I also suspect Mary Boddington's father was named Robert Boddington.
Francis Partridges' wife, Mary Rowley, bap. 10 Jan 1773, daughter of William Rowley & Ann Petit in Easton Maudit.  I have William Rowley bap. 26 Jan 1744, son of William Rowley & Elizabeth in Broughton.

Iwill provide the children of these families as near as I have been able to find out later. My information comes from the PRs and BTs of Bozeat, Easton Maudit, Broughton and Mears Ashby.
Hope this is of use to you.

Thank you, Edwin M Puckett

Hello Edwin

Thanks for your message & information; the details agree with my findings .....

BUT .... not wanting to shoot a big hole in your tree -- how do you know the William Partridge 1807 is son of Francis P & Mary Rowley - rather than the William P baptised Bozeat on 18/01/1807 to John P & Elizabeth Barker who married in 1802.

I have (as do others in their trees) William marrying Sarah Hooton on 5 Nov 1829 & producing children John 1830, Mary 1831, Jane 1835, William 1836, Elizabeth 1839, James 1842 & Thomas 1845 at Bozeat.

Then again I could have made the wrong choice

It is of interest that William & Elizabeth's first daughter Sarah b 1835 has second name Spencer. Do you know of a Spencer link to Partridge by a previous marriage perhaps

Keeping with the Francis Partridge & Mary Rowley marriage - I am wondering if they baptised a son James born about 1816. FreeReg only goes up to 1812.

Francis & Mary had daughter Hannah 1812 who married Samuel Drage & her widower father Francis was living with them in 1851 & 1861. On 1861 living next door is William Hooton Partridge b 1836 & wife Elizabeth. William is son of William P & Sarah Hooton; him being son of Francis & Mary born 1807.

Next door on is John P b 1842 & wife Emily (ne Warner). We've established that John is son of James & that on the 1851 census John is son of James & Catherine. James P married Catherine Drage in Dec 1841 & I suspect Samuel Drage & her are related somehow.

The only other James Partridge borm 1816 Bozeat is son of Thomas P & Alice (Nichols) who married in 1806 - but Pallots say he was from Chelmsford. So I cannot see (or find) a connection.

Hi John.

Not sure if these are any good as not a James.

Or whether they had moved to non-conformists.

At Wellingborough Cheese Lane Independent to Francis and Mary Partridge

Hugh, Birth 14 SEP 1814, Baptism About 14 NOV 1815

Sarah, Birth 01 SEP 1815, Baptism 14 NOV 1815

Sorry if red herrings.

Thanks for looking Sandy;

It's interesting to note that James & Catherine's first daughter was named Alice, baptised 19/12/1847 & buried 18/10/1848, and they had another Alice baptised 24/8/1862 - so I'm wondering if these were named after James' mother.

So who was the Thomas Partridge who married Alice Nichols in 1806 at Bozeat ? From the PR is there further details about this marriage; Pallots has a note to say Thomas is of Chelmsford.

Also noted that the next 1806 marriage on Pallots is Thomas Robinson of Chelmsford to Mary Partridge - again does the PR have more details.

Why of Chelmsford ? does this link Thomas P & Mary P ? as being in same family. A burial of Mary Robinson at Bozeat in 1843 says she was aged 66 = born 1777. Also interesting is that Thomas & Mary Robinson had son Thomas 1810; he married Mary Smart in 1831; they had son Luke 1836; & he married Elizabeth Partridge in Sept 1860; she is daughter born 1839 of William P & Sarah Hooton.

Hope you following all this.

Regards John

Thank you, John, for your reply.

Sorry, I haven't gotten back to you before now.  Yes, I the thought about my William Partridge being of the other family has crossed my mind as well.  I will admit that my conclusion of my William being a son of Francis Partridge & Mary Troman is an educated guess.  As you well know, it is quite a task to determine the Partridge relationships in Bozeat.  I could be wrong and am always interested in fixing any mistakes I have made.

However it may be, I base my conclusion on my William Partridge's death date of 64 in the Jun 1871 quarter in the Brixworth Registration District ( I found him in the 1871 census in Cottesbrooke as a Shepherd).

Yes, there is indeed a Spencer connection with my William Partridge & Mary Cook.  Mary was baptized 8 Sep 1806 in Mears Ashby, daughter of William Cook & Sarah Spencer.  Sarah Spencer was baptized 30 Oct 1774 in Overstone, daughter of Midian Spencer & Eleanor Wright.  To date, I have found no information on Midian Spencer.

Thank you,

Edwin M Puckett

Hello Edwin

I agree there was a William Partridge who died June 1871 Brixworth age 64; & he was the one in 1871 at Cottlesbrooke born 1807 Bozeat with wife Eliizabeth; and that I have tracked him & family back through 1861/1851/1841 censuses, but nothing has definitely linked him to parents being Francis & Mary, or indeed, John & Elizabeth.

On the other hand the other William b 1807 & wife Sarah (Hooton) remains in Bozeat & have son John Hooton Partridge; who on 1851 census is living next door to his grandfather Francis Partridge & Auntie Hannah (now Mrs Samuel Drage)

Again no definite proof but there is the family connection.
