mising uncle

My uncle Allan Yates,born 1902 in Lancashire England was sent to Canada with Barnardos in 1913.He seems to have done very well,having his own farm by 1924 in Barkway,Ontario.I have info on him until 1942 when the trail ends.Could anyone tell me how to find  death records  on Allan,I am at a complete loss as to how to start.  Thanks,Allan's niece.

Hi J.A.M   Thanks for replying,my uncle seems to have disappeared,so strange.I did contact the Land Registry but without a  series of plot numbers or exactly where the farm was located they couldn't help.I will try the other sites though,thanks again.Barwick.

Hi Barwick,

The BMD Ontario registration office is in Thunder Bay, Ontario. If you are a relation to Allan you could contact them for the death registration record. However keep in mind within the  info restriction for deaths, you do have to be a direct descendant to get the info from there.

Did Allan fight in WW11 - farmers usually didn't, but that could be a possibility? You should be able to get his service records if that is the case from the National Archives of Canada.

Hi JDC, Allan Yates was my dads brother,would that be a near enough relative to get his death records? I don't know if he fought in the second world war,his brother,my dad enlisted so he may have done too .Thanks for your help,I'll try the  BMDs and the archives,can they be accessed on the internet?  Thanks again. barwick.

I'm not sure about whether a neice is a close enough link for them to provide you with a cert.. If not, perhaps you can get a cousin to get it for you or have them give you permission to get it yourself.

If you think he died in Ontario, you can check the OCFA site for his burial cemetery. The link is: http://www.islandnet.com/ocfa/search.php.

Here is the link to our national archives if you think Allan joined the Canadian forces. You can get his service records from this site as well - they are very reasonably priced. Would think the National Archives in Britian would have similar servicies.

You may want to contact the Barkway local public library to see if they can provide any info (BMD notices, etc). I'm not sure if Barkway has one, but if not, it may be part of Bracebridge or Gravenhearst library system. I find librarians do their best to help out :-) I trust these folks you will help you as much as they helped me. The libraries should have a web presence I would think. I noticed that Barkway is just south of Baysville where my ancestors resided. I got a lot of family history out of the Tweedsmuir history book for the town they lived in.

The land registry office would know if the farm was sold at that time as well. This would indicate if he died then or moved away from Barkway.

Hi vbain,thanks for the reply,neither seem to be my uncle though.He entered Canada in 1913 at the age of 11 so both  bits of the info cannot be him because of the ages.Really appreciate the help,will keep on looking as I would deasrly love to find out what happened to him. Barwick.
