Have reached a total impasse in my family history search on behalf of my uncle!  His g-grandfather was in Ireland and was in the RUC (tho prob called Royal Irish then?)  At this time his surname was apparently Brady. He then left Ireland because of "some troubles" !!! Changing his name to Kavanagh, settled in Spittalfields area of London and was reportedly a "superintendent" of the market there, known as Black Jack!  I know the next stages: had son, James (b c1872) who married Honorah in 1893, Whitechapel.   He possibly had other children including one who went to South Africa and another to NZ. It's the previous history I'm trying to trace!  Does this sound like a treasure hunt needing a visit to Ireland (but where?!!) ?  Ideas? Help?
Paul.

R.U.C. = Royal Ulster Constabulary which was founded in 1922 so we can rule that out.
Any idea of wife's name or dates? any of the children born in Ireland?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
