Genealogists and International Probate Researchers?
« on: Wednesday 22 September 10 15:18 BST (UK) »
Hello all,

This is my first post on Rootschat and I hope that you maybe able to assist me!

My son is a avid watcher of the BBC programme Heir Hunters and wants to try and get a job with one of these companies as a trainee once her has finished school/college.

I know fraser and fraser are featured in the programme, (London based I think) but wanted to see if anyone knows of a website where I can search for similar companies (based in the Midlands!) or a website that advertises positions within such companies.

Hopefully someone out there can help me!!

Many thanks in advance for any help.

PK73, welcome to rootschat ;D

Good for your son having a goal he's working towards.  That motivates him in his school work. :)

Hope he does well, and that you find the info you're seeking to help him. ;D

Hi PK73

Most of these type of companies are located in London, because that's where the records they need for their busines are easily accessed, or Southport, where the GRO is. Not everything is on-line.

There is a set of GRO indices at Birmingham Central Library, he could try going there to see if he can make contact with any of the 'professionals' there who may be using the fiche.

I would suggest, however, that the regional companies may be family based (ie husband & wife) and too small to employ extra staff.

Your son may want to consider approaching some of the larger legal firms with Probate Departments in your area. He may find this site useful
