Help with the outcome of an alleged violent assault
« on: Thursday 23 September 10 13:28 BST (UK) »
I am not to sure if this is the correct board for this thead, but i was really hoping someone can help.

I have just found an article from The Hull and East Riding Times, dated Friday Jan 15 1886 which states that my Great Great Grandparents George Belt and Harriet Higo were involved in an alleged violent assault on a young man. At the end of the article it says that they were remanded for seven days.

Try as i might i can,t find another entry that says what they were sentenced to or fined etc. and am curious to know the outcome. Incidently they married in December 1886.

Fingers crossed that someone may be able to find the answer. :)

they were remanded for seven days.

My understanding of that phrase is that your ancestors where imprisoned for seven days, but maybe someone elso knows different.

I thought you were remanded (possibly in custody) while awaiting trial.

We need stanmapstone for this - I've sent him a PM

Had a reply from Stan - thanks

I have looked at the following issues of The Hull and East Riding Times but cannot see any reference to the case. If it was not reported then I don't know how you could find the outcome.
