Double checking if you could help
« on: Thursday 23 September 10 16:16 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to help me.

I have been researching my family tree for 4 years now and all of a sudden I am doubting myself.

My gr grandmother Maria Sparrow is the problem. I have her marriage certificate to a Harry Abbott,  in 1880 which I know is correct.  On the cert it states her father was William Sparrow, Gardener, deceased.  I have her death cert too but I am not sure if I have the right birth cert.  She married and died in London but I believe Maria originated from Essex.

Have I given you enough information for you to check anything out for me?

I'm trying to give the minimum info as I would hate to lead anyone down the wrong path which I might have taken myself.  Oh it states she was 22 on her marriage cert in 1880.

Many thanks for reading,

Chloe

Is this 1881?

Henry Abbott 21 Carrier Evenley N Hampshire
Maria 22 Hockey Essex
William H 5mo St Marys Lambeth

2 Elam Street, Kennington Second

If so, she seems to be with her widowed mother Hannah in 1861 in Hockley, Essex and sister Emily, is that what you have?

Theres a marriage in 1856 in the Rochford district Essex of a William John Sparrow, one of the possible brides being a Hannah Stowers?, and a death in Rochford in 1859 of a William John Sparrow

Yes, that's the one I have but it's her birth certificate I am after.  The one I have, which I did order, says her name is Maria Anna Sparrow, and there is nowhere in anything that gives her name as Maria Anna.  I thought this was the right one as her mother being a Hannah knocked the H's out and came to Anna as a second name for her.  But, of course if I have guessed wrong I don't have the correct parents for her.  Also on the birth cert I have the fathers name is William John Sparrow.

This is why I am having doubts on the research I have done.  I don't know where to look for the parish records and if I would get the right parish.  On the 1911 census she says she comes from Southend.

I do thank you for looking.

And does the birth cert that you have, have her Mum as Hannah nee Stowers and dad as William John?

Is there any way I can double check though.  As I don't feel comfortable with no mention of either Maria's or William's second names?
