KEMP DOHERTY *COMPLETED*
« on: Friday 24 September 10 03:13 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I'm seeking info about my grandparents and great grandparents in New Zealand.

1. John Doherty who married Ivy Christine Kemp in 1916, in Masterton. Ivy Christine was born 1888 in Napier. John born in Yea, Victoria, 1888.  Children were Ivy Kathleen (born Waipukurau) and Joyce.
Need death, and parentage etc. of John Doherty. Also, birthplace of Joyce, and any marriages?

2. The parents of Ivy Christine Kemp were Emma and George Kemp, probably married outside New Zealand.
Their daughter Ivy Christine Kemp (my Grandmum) was born in 1888, in New Zealand, Waipukurau.
Seeking Emma's family surname, and date, place of marriage to George Kemp.

I'm new at this - Is there any free Tree-diagramming program out there?

Thanks, Irene, Washington, DC

Irene, W

One good tip is although we could find alot of this info, once we do you then should buy the certificates for your main/direct family line...a printout then gives you definite information

Searching at NZ BMD site
https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/
you can find years of marriages, deaths and births.

From the deaths and births, if they are checked on fiche (available at many libraries - you can ask for lookups) then we can see where the event was registered.

Then marriage in 1916 to KEMP

Hi Irene

If you get a PRINTOUT (not a certificate) of Ivy Christine’s Birth, it should give the date and place for the of marriage of Emma & George AND Emma’s maiden name.
You can search & order here:
https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/search/

see here for what information you should expect on NZ certs/printouts.

You will find George & Emma buried here:
http://www.hdc.govt.nz/cem/cemetery_home.html

The headstone says she was born in Birmingham 1845 and he in Leicester 1842.

Hi

An OCR copy, hence its strangeness (1316 bridesmaids!!!!!!!!!!), of the wedding in Havelock, Hawkes Bay. A view of the original is in Papers Past

New Zealand Free Lance, Volume IX, Issue 445, 9 January 1909, Page 14

A pretty wedding took place at Havelock, Hawke's Bay, oni the 29th Decembei, when Mr. Edwin Framk Wil-9om, of Auckland 1 was marriedi to Miss Ivy Christine Kemp, tihi.rd daughter of Mr George Kemp, of BDaveliock. The bride wore the usual wreath of orange blossoms and 1 yedl, racihly embToidered, and carried a very handsome shower bouquet of wjhafte begonias, 'roses, asparagus, amd maidemr hair fern. • • • Tii© bmdesmaidls were Mass Daisy Kemp (sister of the bride) and Miss Olive Miller, who woo-e preitty direesesof pale green zephyr, trimmed with iaseirtiom amd ribbons. Ttbey also wore oreme chiffon pidtiure hats, trimmed with pale pi,n.lr roses and forget-menots, and carried beautiful shower bouquets of punk and white roses, maiden-hair ferni, and asparagus. The bridegroom's gifit to the bride was a handlsome necklet set with oldivilnies, pearls, amid toxunmalines, and to 1316 bridesmaids gold bnoocihes set with turquoises and pearls. The bride's gift to tlhe tonidegraoirn was a gold' Jtockeit with photos. Mr. Stanley M. Kemp, brother of the bride, acted as best man. The happy pair have gome to Auckland to start their housekeeping. •

I agree that Legacy is a good program - and there is a free version, very suitable for starting a family tree.  The above can be easily copied as a text file,  corrected and then transferred into the "notes" of Legacy.

Cheers

Dear Althea, Mal and Bren,

I can't thank you enough! I'm thrilled to bits about getting all this information and leads. And to actually see a photo of my great grandparents headstone... And a newspaper description of my grandmother's wedding! Unreal! My siblings in OZ will be thrilled too.

I shall start some serious exploring work this weekend.

Thank you again for all your time and effort...you have brought a lot of smiles.

Irene
