Grumbley/Grumley/Grumly
« on: Friday 24 September 10 20:44 BST (UK) »
Is anyone researching the Grumbley/Grumley/Grumly family of Mountmellick/Meelick/Rosenalis/Cappabeg areas of Co Laios (Queens)?

Other (possible) connected families include O'Neill/Mahon/Kearney.

I would like to make contact and share information.

Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim,
We have been in contact at Genealogylaois, and I have searched all my cemetery records and found no Grumbly burials.
Kearney are in Mountmellick and Rosenallis, and if you want a list of those, I will post them,
Regards,
Jack

Hi Jack

Sorry for not responding sooner.

Jim,

The Laois IPG website has records from Mountmellick & Rosenallis, and there are Grumley records there.

I am researching a John Grumley who married an Esther "Essie" Dowling 1908.

They turn up in the 1911 Irish census living in Meelick, Rossenallis.

Did they have any children?

John died 1948, Essie 1952

Any help much appreciated.

Brendan

Hi Brendan

I have a John Grumbley that may fit the bill but know little about him.

Born c1878 Died c1948 Mountmellick
In 1901 living he was living in Meelick, Meelick, Co Laois working as an Agricultural Labourer (1901 census - Meelick, Meelick, Co Laios)

I will speak with my mother-in-law to see if she knows more.

How are you related?

Hi Jim,

One of my relations in the US, his g grandfather Richard Dowling who was the brother of Essie who married John Grumley.

1901 census Essie's mother Catherine Dowling aged 60 is living with her mother Catherine Conroy aged 90, her husband is living in an adjoining

townland, Thomas Doolan is living with his son Thomas. 1911 Catherine aged 90 and Thomas the father have died, Thomas the son is living in Meelick

with his mother. Did John & Essie have kids, did Thomas, Essie's brother Marry.

Thank you

Brendan
