Hi odbsmith,
Born at P.D. and apart from a long stint in the army have lived here all my life. My grandfather took over the Crown and Anchor from the Hudman's in the late thirties and my father, took it over during the war years. The pub eventually closed in 1953. The property remained very much the same apart from the obvious removal of the bar and fittings for many years, then I restructured a lot of it about seven years ago. Memories of the pub are vague as you can imagine as I was only five years old when it closed, although I have a lot of anecdotal evidence to say it was a popular 'watering-hole'. Some years back a relative of yours or a descendant of yours, who I believe was living in America, sent my Mam a letter asking for information regarding the grave site of the Hudman's but I don't know what the outcome was. Hope this info is of some use.
