Wills ordered at First Avenue House
« on: Thursday 30 September 10 22:25 BST (UK) »
On 6 September I went to the Probate Office at First Avenue House and ordered five wills to be delivered to me in the US. I've just returned home expecting the wills to be here, but they are not. Should I be concerned about this or does the process take this long with the mail option?

I'm not sure but think there might be a huge backlog. I ordered 5 wills from the York office in the middle of August and they arrived yesterday from Norwich  ::) On that basis, I think yours might be another couple of weeks or so....

Especially looking for - Sealey, Rogers, Cannings, Box, Sheppard in Wiltshire; Virgin, Slade, Abbott, Saint, Harper, Silverthorn in Somerset; and Virgin, Tarr, Beer in Devon

And most especially the origins of William Cannings,  a Baptist, born abt 1791 in Broughton Gifford, Wiltshire

Hi Pua

Don't be concerned just yet.

Due to the increased demand for wills because of the indices being made available online with Ancestry, there is now a sign on the counter at Holborn that says that orders are taking 21 days to be processed, and then you have to allow for the overseas post.

Thank you for quick answers. It's a bit of a relief as I did not want to start the "where are they" process. A phone call is very expensive from here and writing a letter with all the specifics seems a bit more then my jet-lagged brain is up to at the moment.
