Clifton Hall, Kirkliston - query resolved
« on: Thursday 07 April 05 21:05 BST (UK) »
I have found a relative who died at Clifton Hall in Kirkliston in 1874.  I know that this building is now a school and was, until about 1880, apparently owned by the Maitland family.  The lady in question was the widow of a schoolmaster from Cambusnethan in Lanarkshire.  She was still there in 1871.  Some of her children continued to live there, others were living in Glasgow or Edinburgh from 1871 onwards.

I'd love to know how she came to be at Clifton Hall when she died - it looks like a big house (Scots baronial style).  Unfortunately, the index does not give a cause of death - only a reference to the Register of Corrected Entries (not available online - yet).  Does anyone have any ideas why she might have been there?  The informant was her son, who lived in Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow.
