Help in deciphering please
« on: Monday 04 October 10 11:58 BST (UK) »
Can anyone who knows place names in Lincolnshire have a peek at 1871 Census  RG10 4699 13 page 22
Daniel Bennett is shown there (should be Barnett) aged 26 but can't make our whereabout he is from in Lincolnshire

The only birth I can find is Louth 1844 for Daniel Barnett -and for census of 1851 there is a Daniel Barnett iving at Legbourn, but can't trace this family in 1841

any help would be most appreciated

On other censuses where does Daniel say he was born?

As Jen suggests the most logical interpretation is 'Grantham'. If Daniel was living elsewhere in the country then perhaps the enumerator was not familiar with Lincolnshire and wrote Granton/e as a misinterpretation of Grantham?  :-\

Oh, I just noticed you may have found Daniel in 1851...

This Daniel is proving very difficult !

I have the birth certificate of his daughter Rose Hannah Barnett born 1880
which states father Daniel Barnett mother Mary Jane  Barnett(formerley Woolley.
I hadn't been able to trace a marriage of Daniel Barnett before but from this birth info. I found that Mary Jane Woolley married a Donald Barnet in 1864 Spalding which would be right. The only census I am sure Daniel is on is the 1871 with Mary Jane (both wrongly transcribed as Bennett) at Spalding

By the 1881 census only a few months after Rose's birth Mary Jane Barnett is shown living in Effingham St Sheffield and in marital status says living apart from husband, with her and her 3 children is a lodger William Greenwood.
She and William have a child together c 1883 and they eventually marry in 1898.

so I am hoping that the only suitable Daniel I can find is the one in 1851 at Legbourn, so am hoping legbourn is near to Granstone ? which he sates in 1871

Hope I haven't confused you even more
Sandra

Legbourn is miles from Grantham,   :-\

But it always surprises me the distance some of them travelled :)

RG9/2324/116/23 in house of Mark BURTON 39

Birthplace given as Deeping St James - bap in FreeReg perhaps.

Hi Geoff,

no I didn't have the detail for the marriage -where did you get that from?

need to go down the trail of finding a Daniel (because I believe Donald is incorrect) son of Thomas

many thanks to everyone

The marriage was in the "Spalding spreadsheet" here http://mi.lincolnshiremarriages.org.uk/

The 1851 reference I gave is I think the Daniel who was in Spalding in 1861 I think.

I'm sorry the birthplace doesn't correspond :(
