Phone Numbers- Completed
« on: Monday 04 October 10 21:23 BST (UK) »
Is there a site where I can search for a person's name by using a phone number.

I believe the area code is 148. Could anyone tell me where abouts in  England that could be?

Thanks,
shearg

You need another digit to narrow the area http://www.slough28.com/s28p0148.html

Many UK STD codes are based on the old telephone dial and its number/letter combinations - the number 48 indicates towns that begin with GU or HU or places close to them.

The "1" was inserted in 1995

Thanks Geoff.
I now see how the numbers go and take the area code to be 1482.

All our codes begin with a 0....so it is more likely that the phone number is 01482 ,which is Hull in North Humberside(used to be Yorkshire)

Using a UK based google type search enter the full number that you have an see what you get.

Yes but the leading 0 is dropped when dialing from abroad and replaced by the international dialing code for the UK.

Yes but for someone to google search the place the correct code would be needed in full, including the leading 0 ;)

Is there a site where I can search for a person's name by using a phone number.

If you mean you already know the person's name and just wanted to know which directory to search through, then yes you can and as the others have said the area is Hull.

However, if you mean you have a 'phone number and want to know who it belongs to, unless it is a company with a website, the answer is no.  A few years back, there was a site where you could do this reverse look up, but it was dropped - I think it is illegal in UK to trace calls this way, although it is still possible in USA.  Not sure whether that is all states or just some.  I know at one time, I could find my son's cell (mobile) 'phone number on an American site.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I have it narrowed down to be a phone number for Hull, Beverly, Hessle & Hedon but as you said I can't find the acutal person's name.
I know the surname but not the first name.
