Born Bellisadare, Sligo 1781
« on: Tuesday 05 October 10 15:24 BST (UK) »
I am looking for John Hadley (or Adley) who was born in BELLISADARE, Sligo about 1781.  He was a soldier and appeared on the 1841 census in England with his first wife and by 1851 he was married for the second time.  He was Roman Catholic and his father's name was George (he was a carpenter).

Any help would be so much appreciated.

Its probably Ballysodare, which is about 4 miles south of Sligo Town.  Sometimes spelt Ballisodare too.

There is only one civil birth registration for a John Hadley that I can see born in Ireland in 1864, and that is in Co. Laois.

There are two civil death registrations, one for a John McHadley, in 1894 in Co. Mayo, and the other could be the same John Hadley as my previous post, who died in Co. Laois in 1866.  There is also a listing for a griffiths valuation in Co. Laois, for a John Hadley, in the townland of Ballymorris and parish of Lea.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help.  However, John remains a mystery.  I have found him as a Chelsea Pensioner and that confirms the birth year that I have.  I'm wondering if his father was also a soldier and was in Ireland at the time of John's birth.  It seems strange that there are so few Hadleys and as far as I know, its not really an Irish name??

Thanks again
