Faded Photos
« on: Friday 08 April 05 09:26 BST (UK) »
Here are two photos that newbie sent to me for a diagnoses. This is a common problem but fortunately can be usually easily fixed with the brightness/contrast controls. The major problem is not the faded appearance, it is the stains and spotting. Also the top half of the two pictures shows more fading then the bottom, possably from being in a picture frame that was partly exposed to light from a window.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to bring these two amazing matching photos back to life.

Hi deadant

Thanks for the picture

My solution on this mission is "CROP & CHOP"  :)

Hows this looking. I dont really like it myself, it is to busy for me and needs a lot of cleaning, but at least the picture is more viewable now. My next job is to start again on it

Looking forward to your suggestions & corrections  :)

Regards
Ken

Hi kenhar,
You got the levels right, next time I suggest making a seperate layer for each onject. eg. a layer for the horse, a layer for coats etc. that way you can turn the other layers off and consentate on one section at a time. With the ladies coat for example, after you have selected it, duplicate it on a new layer and increase or decrease  the brightness add a gaussian blur then reduce the opacity so the layer undernath starts to come through. This should fix some of the spotting.
