Henry Pritchard b 1824 Liverpool
« on: Friday 08 October 10 14:04 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

Henry was my gggrandfather. I am struggling to find much info on him.

From the 1851 census I know he was born 1824 in Liverpool & his mother was Mary b 1798 in Liverpool. Both mother & son were widowed at this time. They were living at this time in Church St Warrington with Henrys children John, Charles, Thomas, George & James. (James is my ggrandfather).

I am unable to find Henrys wife name or his fathers name.

Henrys second son Charles was born in Cork, Ireland but all his others were born in Warrington.

Can anybody help?

Hi

Can you give the ref for the 1851 please as I can't see them.

I presume his children were born after 1837, if so, if you get one of their birth certificates this will give you their mother's maiden name and Henry's occupation.

Jan

Hi Jackie,

There is a bit of an age gap between Charles aged 14 and Thomas aged 8 which may mean a second marriage.  So you definitely need your James birth certificate to confirm his mother.

There is a baptism at St. James, Latchford of a Thomas to a Henry and Martha Pritchard on 11 July 1852 which may be "your" Thomas.  :-\

I have a feeling the mother may be a Martha Cartwright, who was previously married to a John George,  but I would be guessing.  There is the burial on 22 November, 1860 of a Martha Pritchard in Warrington aged 39.  Martha George formerly Cartwright married a Henry Pritchard at St. Wilfreds Grappenhall on 21st July, 1851.  His father was John Pritchard and hers was Thomas Cartwright.  (This wants putting on the back burner until you have the certificate)

Regards,
Mo

Hi Mo

I found that burial as well and gut feeling tells me it's correct. The only other female Pritchard death in Warrington between James's birth and 1861, is an Elizabeth in March quarter 1861.

I can't find them in 1851 though can you?

Here's what you need:

James Pritchard
June quarter 1858
Warrington
8C 127

Hi,

Thanks Jan for the birth record info.

I cant find them in 1851 either. Henrys son Charles was born in Cork, Ireland 1847 so perhaps he was living in Ireland with a previous wife?

Regards
Jackie

Hi,

I can`t come up with any of them either.  The nearest hit for either family was a Martha George (transcribed as Goerge) Widow, age 29, born Latchford Cheshire lodging in Bolton.  Suprisingly she had a son Charles age 5 but it states born Latchford too.  :'(
