Rebecca Hanson born Knaresborough c1854
« on: Friday 08 October 10 14:49 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to trace this lady who married Thomas Blackburn in 1876 in York. The weddingertificate shows her father as Henry Hanson a Fishmonger.

Her age varies by up to 5 years on various Census as does her place of birth, but Knaresborough appears twice.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Many thanks

David :)

Hi David

She is certainly hard to trace, so we will need all possible clues.  What was Rebecca's address at marriage, and who were the witnesses to the marriage?

Hi
Rebecca was living at Palmer Lane York as was her husband Thomas Blackburn.

The names of the witnesse, which are difficult to read look like William and Susan Adeley.

Thanks for your help

Kind Regards

David

Hi David

Can you shed any light on a John Bowman born about 1836, York. He was head of house in 1881 and staying with him was Henry Hanson born Knaresborough, fishmonger. Henry was stated as step father.

That's a good find.

This Henry HANSON was still in York in 1891 (74, widower, fish hawker b "York") with granddaughter Susan BOWMAN and two great-grandchildren:

Hi

This is most puzzling in the 1881 Census he is 52 and in the 1891 Census he is 74. I have heard of wild variations, but 12 years seems a lot. I wonder which one is right.

Kind Regards

David :)

Hi

Thanks for that, I have found Henry's death in Sept qtr York age 69, so we seem to be narrowing the birth down to c1824/5.

Kind Regards

David

P S Henry married Ellen Bowman in  1876 in Easingwold R D, so his first wife must have died by then.
