Clonmannin ??
« on: Friday 08 October 10 17:30 BST (UK) »

I am trying to find out where abouts Clonmannin is.  That spelling is take from a 1878 Birth cert. The Cert was issued for  My Great Great uncle and is issued in the Union of Rathdrum. Clonmannin is listed as  his parents dwelling place.

I would appreciate any help I could be given.

The townland (and village) Clonamannon, which gortonboy mentioned, is in the registration district of Rathdrum - so fits with the cert you have.

Even though it's in the registration district of Rathdrum, it's not all that near to the town, and is closer to Ashford and Wicklow town. See google map : Ashford to Clonmannon

Thank you both.

Would either of you know if it was  a RC parish in  the mid 1800's or would it be under another RC parish, Wicklow town??.  I'd be interested in the RC parish registers for that area  I'd also be interested in knowing if there is a graveyard there.

Thanks again

Tom

I'd say RC parish is Ashford or Wicklow... but I'll double check

I think the Ashford records only start in the 1860s... most earlier details are included in Wicklow/Kilpipe

Clonmannon is the civil parish of Rathnew (src : townland database at www.thecore.com/seanruad) and this is part of Ashford RC Parish (Irish Times)
These records cover baptisms from 1864 onward

Many of the earlier records are in Wicklow RC Parish
