Help! Is there more to this 1833 Sheffield Marriage Certificate?
« on: Friday 08 April 05 13:58 BST (UK) »

Hi:

Pallot's Marriage Index and the database on the Yorkshire Rotheram Registers of Marriage 1798-1837 indicate that James Turkwin married Ellen Marriott, March 10, 1833. Looking at the image, is it a folded record with more info on the inside? If so, how would I find/order a copy of it.

In the Yorkshire Rotherham Register (1798-1837) this is apparently Register Vol. 14

Thanks,
Bernadette (Canada)

The image you have posted appears to be the index slip from Pallots or some other index, not a copy of the entry in the parish register.  The parish register entry would be one of three on a page.  However, you need to remember that pre-1837 you do not find any fathers' names, addresses or occupations.

Bernadette,

It is a strange image, isn't it - there does seem to be something showing through...

As no doubt you are aware, the marriage of James and Ellen is in the IGI at the LDS site FamilySearch at:
http://www.familysearch.org

There is also the christening of a daughter to James Turkwin and Ellen - Clara Credilla Turkwin, bap 11 Oct 1843, Rotherham, Yorkshire.  This is one of those strange "I" batches, all female, and no source information (I wrote to the LDS asking for more information about these batches but did not receive a reply).

If you haven't already done so, it would surely be worth going to your nearest LDS Family History Centre and ordering in the film with the marriage of James and Ellen.  Also there might be a film which could possibly include baptisms of more of their children.  Usually the parish registers do not contain a lot of information.  But sometimes you can be lucky!!
