Swansea Absent Voters Registers *COMPLETED*
« on: Monday 11 October 10 09:28 BST (UK) »
West Glamorgan Archives tell me they have no Absent Voters Registers for Swansea for WW1.
Does anyone know if anywhere else holds Swansea Absent Voters registers?
Regards

Not aware of these having survived but if the WGAS don't have them you could try the Swansea Reference Library as a last resort.

Thanks Bernard for your answer to my post asking for Swansea absent voters registers. I tried all the libraries in Swansea, West Glamorgan Archives, Glamorgan Archives, TNA and The British Library and kept being told that the registers were lost and that none had survived. And then one of the Swansea librarians suggested I try the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth who replied to say they had a 1919 Absent Voters Register for Swansea east and west. The archivist did a search for me and I now have the army number of the soldier I am researching.

Best Regards

Glad to hear that you got a result Roger!

Sometimes it pays to do some divergent thinking... (I eventually found my late father's WW1 RNR Records at The Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton, - definately not the first place that I would have thought of trying:-)

Best Wishes, Romilly.

Wow! Fantastic news Roger! I didn't know that. Can you tell me what info the register holds? Does it give battalion/regiment etc?

Yes, the extracts I’ve been sent from the Swansea Absent Voters register for 1919 show – full name, rank, regiment, number and address.

You might be able to help me with a Swansea street name that I cannot find on a recent Swansea map. Do you know of a Lemgrove Street?  and if it no longer exists, roughly where it was?

Thanks
