Hello,
there is a Dominick Joseph Raftery emigrating to USA in 1914 (which would mean of course that he should be on 1911 census).
He is going to a sister in Pittsfield Mass.- Mrs Hater  ??? ???
He is single, 30 yrs and his realtive is a brother - Mr Raftery, Tarmon, Castle Rea, Roscommon

It doesn't quite add up does it?

Have you searched for them in English census for 1911?

Did Dominick marry Kate Dowd?

The son, John Joseph looks to be here in 1911

Dominick came from Termonmore (Tarmon) Castlerea, Roscommon, I did not Know about the J in His name, in 1901 census he was married with 1 child and he is aged 26. I have not seen the english 1911 census. any other info as to the brother's name etc.

He married a Kate and had a son John Joe, I thought i saw reference somewhere to another child? but cannot find it at present!

Thanks
john

Our posts must have crossed- John Jo is with grandparents.

If he marries Catherine Dowd- I think he marries as Joseph Raftery?

DO you know who he married?

Family Search pilot has a Catherine Dowd and a Joseph Raftery marrying in Tuam district in 1899 with same references.

Josephy Raftery

I was wondering if this is them?

yes this looks right I must lookup his birth/baptism details for the joseph part. I have their baptism dates. I am trying to trace the family from its Roscommon roots and Mayo , my Grandfather was his brother Michael staying with him in BallyHaunis in 1901. He moved back to the family farm before 1911 and his other brother Patrick had the land and his family lived there until recent times. Michael eventually settled in Cork but I cannot find the rest of the family. i know one was a nun in the US and died in the 60's. I need to trace the others.
