Welcome to RootsChat.  :)

You don't give any idea of date, but there was a place called St Catherine's Home for Delicate Children, an Open Air School apparently for children with asthma or similar conditions.  It was founded in 1879 and still exists today as a school for children with special needs.  It was run by nuns during WW2.  It is on Grove Road in Ventnor.

Hope that helps.

Nell

It would appear that the St Catherine's Home was established originally as a sort of hospice for those suffering from the advance effects of the disease commonly known in the 19th century as consumption, but which we now refer to tuberculosis. Because antibiotics were unknown, the only means of controlling the spread of infection was to isolate patients in private sanitoria or hospitals limited to patients with TB—a practice that continues to this day in many countries.

The Cottage home was set up in 1879 costing £1000 funded by gifts and subscription, though patients paid 10shillings and sixpence each a week.

Thank you for that information.  Would you happen to know who I need to contact regarding records of children who stayed there in the 1950,s.

Re the dates I was at the children,s home on the isle of wight
I must have been between 1951 to 1954-5.  I know my brother and I were sent there because we suffered from breathing problems. Will that help.
