1891,1901 census look up please - COMPLETED WITH THANKS
« on: Saturday 16 October 10 16:28 BST (UK) »
Could someone try and find James Hardie in the 1891 or 1901 census.

He was born c1843, New Spynie.
His wife died in 1888.  He had four children so may have married again.

His children in 1881 census are Mary c1873, William c 1875, James G c 1877 and Jennie c 1879

There may have been more children.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Betty

Same chap in 1901...?

1901- Gordon Lane, Bellie

James Hardie   37 b. New Spynie   (Railway Carrier)
Elizabeth Hardie   31
Alexander Hardie   19
Nellie Hardie   14
Elspet J Hardie   4
Jessie Hardie   2

Elizabeth is James wife.  But there seems to have been a mistranscription of James' age.  Should be 57 instead of 37 perhaps.

Thanks very much for finding these two censuses.

It very much looks like my people with Alexander, Annabella and Nellie being children born between the two censuses, 1881/91.  Then James must have married after the death of his first wife and had more children.  WOW

Certainly gives me something to think about.

Thanks again
