COMPLETED All Saints Ashcott Graves - Photos?
« on: Saturday 16 October 10 20:15 BST (UK) »
Hi
I'm doing some research for a niece's OH and have been pleasantly surprised by the records available for Somerset. Now I'm wondering if there are any photgraphic records of graves in the All Saints Churchyard at Ashcott.
The grave I'm looking for has been fully recorded in Somerset MIs by the Somerset and Devon FHS, which I found on FindMyPast, although not sure when this was done.I would love to be able to present him with a photo of the grave as it contains his Great x 4 grandparents, Great x 3 grandfather, plus 2 great x 4 aunts and a great x 4 uncle.
Does anyone know if the FHS also photographed these headstones?
Thanks
Paula

All Saints Church is still in use.  Why don't you contact the Church, I'm sure that someone would take a picture for you - if you asked nicely!  Just Google them and the information will come up.  Anna

Hi Paula

If you let me know the names of the people you are looking for I will go and have a look, there are quite a few of my husband's relations in the churchyard there.

Thanks for the suggestion Anna, if Heather can't find the grave I'll contact the Church as you suggest.
Hi Heather,
Thank you so much for your kind offer. The grave is for TRUTCH. There is a headstone and kerb. According to the record the kerb part is somewhat derelict. In the grave are -
John Trutch died 1831, his wife Mary, daughter of John and Elizabeth Bond of Saltash, Cornwall died 1849, plus their children Clement died 1836 aged 25, William died 1859 and Elizabeth died 1861.
A reference on the record says 7-79 but I don't know if this is relevant. I will send a pm with my e-mail address.
Very grateful
thanks again
Paula  :)

Hi Paula

Will send you the photos. On the second time round the churchyard I found the grave stone. As so many of my husband's family are from Ashcott. I wrote down a few years of the burials from a fiche at the local Records Office and found these listed, all had been living at Ashcott before being buried there, I incorrectly wrote them down as Frutch!

Elizabeth Bond aged 96 years buried 22 June 1827
John Trutch aged 69 years buried 16 April 1831
Clement Trutch aged 25 years buried 16 April 1836 (exactly 5 years after his Father)
Mary Trutch aged 80 years buried 29 September 1849

Regards Heather

Hi again Heather
Many, many thanks for the 10 photos of the grave - I'll probably pass them all on to my niece as I can't decide between them.
It was so kind of you to go to the Churchyard, and so quickly too - couldn't believe when the photos popped up on the e-mails this morning.
I've also e-mailed you, and will close this topic off now.
Thanks again  :)
