Hello marlowmags,

Is/was this on the Delves Broughton estate at Doddington?

Your best bet might be to approach the Nantwich Family History Society. There is also a researcher who lives in that area who has done some books on "lost" buildings and he is familiar with the Delves Broughton estate.

Hello again,

The reason that I believe this to be an estate cottage is that I once knew someone who worked for the Delves Broughton family on their estate at Doddington Hall. This would have been a bit later than the 1920s, she died in 2004, aged 89. She lived in an estate cottage in Walgherton when she worked for them.

The Cheshire Tithe maps which are online, suggest that the Delves Broughton family owned Walgherton lands.

Jo.

Hello marlowmags,

This time c1927 was when Jock Delves Broughton was the Baronet at Doddington Hall. He is renowned for the "White Mischief" scandal in Kenya and it has been established recently that he was responsible for the murder of the Earl of Erroll.

The estate in Doddington was run down and lands sold off to pay for his gambling debts. It never recovered and the Hall at Doddington is an uninhabited, crumbling place now.
