Marriage Records St. Hilda's Church South Shields
« on: Monday 18 October 10 23:02 BST (UK) »
Marriage of William Weston Dunn to Harriet Gray. 08 02 1837 at St. Hilda's Church, Market Place, South Shields.
This is the record of my ancestor's wedding, but it gives no other details in the online version available.
The Record Source is given as Northumberland and Durham Marriages and the data provider is Northumberland and Durham Family History Society.

I'm trying to trace back to the respective families of the pair. Wiliam on many censuses is recorded as coming from Hull yorkshire and harriet from Scarborough, Yorkshire. However this marriage record gives no details of their origins, nor the names of any relatives. :(

My question is simply this, -is this transcription likely to include all the information on the record, or might there be other details to be discovered were I to make the long journey necessary to consult the original?

Any other ideas of how I might break out of this apparent dead end would be most welcome  :)

Hi

Marriages prior to 1.7.1837 did not include details of the respective fathers names/occupations

Marriage entries do not show actual birthplaces - just OTP (of this parish) which just means they satisfied the 3 weeks residential qualification needed to marry there - it does not necessarily mean they were born there

Apart from witnesses names and marital status (ie) bachelor/widower/spinster that is pretty much it

:)  Thank you CaroleW, it certainly looks very likely to be the Harriet for whom I've been looking.

The next question is why IGI coughs up the information for you, and yet has repeatedly come up with nothing on the numerous occasions on which I've previously searched it?  ???

You can see the full record of the marriage via the Durham Bishops transcripts here http://www.rootschat.com/links/090w/

Select Durham, then Saint Hilda, then 1833 - 1840.

When the page loads enter the number 164 in the box marked 'image' and press your 'return' key.

You will then see the relevant page.

:) Thank you both so much!  I've made more progress with this couple in the week since I joined this website than in the previous year!  From nothing to a printout of the record of their marriage and all thanks to the helpful and knowledgeable people here - truly amazing.  Thank you all again!  :)
