Tipton baptism - Hawkins - Complete
« on: Tuesday 19 October 10 13:30 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to find anything on Thomas Hawkins especially his baptism. All the census returns show he was born in Tipton about 1806. He married Maria Dowers in 1836 at Deptford (Kent)

Regards Graham

I think you will need to find the marriage details which might give his father,  as Thomas Hawkins is such a common name.

Thank you Patrish. I will look for that and hope the father hasn't got a common name as well.

The problem you have is pre 1837 marriages do not give the fathers name, only the couple, status, date ,whether of the parish and witnesses, but sometimes you can get lucky and a father or close relative may appear as a  witness.

I believe Deptford was divided into 2 parishes, St Paul and St, Nicholas

Then Deptford was in Kent, it might be worth you posting a marriage look up request on the Kent board as  someone may have access to the parish records.

Also posting  the link to this thread will help

Thanks again, I'll try that.
Somebody in Kent has checked for me and father and siblings are not mentioned on the marriage records. Do you know if there are many Thomas Hawkins born 1805/6 in Tipton.
