Merlin,

Thanks for the prompt reply at this late hour.

Possibly not my Bridget, the information given to me had Bridget born in Tipperary around 1797 and dying around 1877 possibly at Ararat.

Can't see any Bridget Quigley even close to her age, date or place of death.

Do you have any other details for her?

Merlin,

Thanks.

I'm looking at the mother for a Catherine Hayes from Tipperary who married Adam Young at Smythesdale in 1862.

The marriage certificate states that Catherine's mother was ELIZABETH QUINLEY.

Yesterday I received some information that Catherine's mother came out from Ireland as well (don't know how or when) plus other children and her maiden name in Ireland was BRIDGET QUIGLEY.

For some reason I assumed she may have gone back to maiden name of QUIGLEY when she came out to Victoria.

Maybe I should be looking for a BRIDGET HAYES who died around 1877 at Stawell (not Ararat) or ELIZABETH HAYES because Elizabeth was on Catherine's marriage certificate.

Hope this is not too confusing.

Gerry

Hi Gerry.

Actually found the following before your last post....simply searched for a Bridget who died 80 years of age in 1877.

To find the place of death you will need to purchase an image of the cert.

HAYES Bridget
Parents unknown
Born Tipperary  80 years  1877  Reg#11958

Thanks Cando,

Your find looks promising from the information giving to me.  I had steered Merlin in the wrong direction with the Quigley.

Bridget Hayes could be my GGGGM so I'll be getting this certificate.  There is nothing like certificates.

I'm intrigued why would Catherine put down Elizabeth as her mothers name when it was likely to have been Bridget, just another mystery.  Bridget/Elizabeth's husband John Hayes probably had died so she migrated, maybe!

With the same information that I was given about Catherine's mother Bridget coming out to Victoria I was told that Catherine's brothers Edward Hayes, Matthew Hayes Michael Hayes and sister Margaret Hayes came out and married as well.  So I still have a lot of research to do.

From Catherine's death certificate (only 28 yo) I did find out that there was a coroners enquiry at Smythesdale and I have now established officially the burial plots for Catherine, her husband Adam Young and infant Thomas who are buried at the Smythesdale Cemetery.

Thanks again for your service.

Gerry

There is another Bridget HAYES death registered in 1877, again with no place of death

Bridget HAYES age 50 b Tipperary, parents: Hayden James and Johanna RYAN # 5974
(Thus b abt 1827) It's unclear as to which of the names given for her father is his surname and which his Christian name)

If Catherine died aged 28 in 1870 her birth would have been abt 1842

The 80yearold Bridget has a birth of abt 1797 which makes her quite old to be the mother of Catherine - not impossible though.  The 50 year old would have been 15 when Catherine was born - once again, not impossible.   ::)  ???

Just thought I'd add that in to the mix   ::)
