Elusive Stoner family
« on: Tuesday 19 October 10 22:31 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace Florence Emily A C Stoner born 1906 (Free BMD) in Gravesend. In 1926 she was married to Edward William Lincoln and lived in Blean near Canterbury Kent but I just can't find her on the 1911 census nor anything like I guess her parents to be on the 1901 census. Before I buy the birth certificate could someone please look with a new pair of eyes as mine have gone square looking for her!!

Thaks for anything you can find x

Hi

I can't see anything either. The only one is a Florence Stone, but it is clearly Stone not Stoner.

Do you have her marriage certificate - if so does that give her father's name? That way you could be sure she was the correct one if you send for the birth certificate.

Thanks Jan, I don't have anything else at the moment (I am in Spain and what family records there are are in the UK) I have been going round in circles all night!

That appears to be the only Stoner born in Gravesend between 1890 and the end of the Freebmd records. Also if you are sure that is her full name, I would think you could be 99% certain it is the correct one.

Hope it's warmer in Spain than it is here.  ;D

Do you have her marriage certificate and did she actually live in Blean or just in the Blean district?  I note that the marriage index details don't quite tally with the birth index details (initials).  Is she connected to the Lilian Louisa F STONER who also married a LINCOLN in the Blean district 1931 ???

Hi,
I don't have any certificates as yet and yes, she is related to Lilian. Lilian and Florence were sisters and married Jack and Edward respectively. Two sisters married two brothers just to complicate matters!

PS. I don't seem to be able to locate Lilian's birth either. I have just had a conversation with another member of this family in the UK and it seems Lilian was kept at home with the parents and as their mother (whoever she was) couldn't cope with the two children Florence was sent to a children's home which is why I can't find the family on the 1911 census.

Re: Elusive Stoner family I'VE FOUND HER!!!

Thanks both for your replies, I have found her in the 1911 census under the name of Florence Cook, with her sister then called Louise (they had dropped the Lilian) with her mother Florence Cook and stepfather Thomas Cook, they were boarders at 18 Abbey Road Barking!!
What do you think this address was? There are a lot of boarders so presumably it was some kind of lodging house.
I will post a queery and see if anyone knows what sort of place it might have been
Thanks again - what a tangled web!!
